Brent Edward Whitted

DP English Language & Literature | TOK_Theory of Knowledge

I enjoy teaching DP Literature, Theatre, and ToK and training IB teachers in workshops. I earned my PhD in English Literature at University of British Columbia in 1999 and a diploma in professional acting at Drama Studio London in 2016. Teaching IB students at TASIS American School in England (9.5 years) was an enriching experience that prepared me well for working at United World College-USA (2.5 years). My work in these institutions has broadened my intellectual and cultural horizons beyond my expectations, and I feel that my teaching, learning, and mentoring strengths thrive in these international environments. This strong IB background has made it possible for me to co-author IB course companions for Oxford University Press.

My tutoring style is based fundamentally on the intersection between a reflective understanding of the student’s personal journey and a detailed understanding of the IB diploma programme. Impactful tutoring involves enabling the synergy between these two worlds. In other areas of my life, I perform in audio dramas and tv series—you can check out some of my recent work on my website: brentwhitted.com.
